How Many Pictures are Too Many?
Everytime I go for a hike I take too many pictures. Obviously since everything is digital this isn’t a big deal, plus it allows me take a bunch crappy pictures in the hopes that I will get one gem. Plus, now that I have been doing NaBloPoMo I have been using some really random unpublished pics because, why not? (Thanks to Kris & RMNP, for being the subject of today’s cover photo, that is another random previously unpublished choice.)
Tonight I was going through my photos to try and find some to print out, which is a completely different set of criteria ones to post on the blog, and it turns out I have ALOT of pictures. I have over 22,000 images on my computer to be exact.
Not all of those are my hiking pictures, some are just random site backup pictures and some are saved things I thought were funny online – but the idea of 22,000 pictures makes me feel kind of anxious… Seriously, what have I been doing to require this excessive documentation?!
But when I look through the pictures I realize each photo only catches a snippet of each beautiful place I have been. I have 6 blurry pictures of basil for each semi-infocus one I have – and that is both true to life and worth keeping around a little longer. The old saying is that “A picture is worth a thousand words,” but that still isn’t enough to capture everything. I need to take more pictures? Nah, I’ll just keep doing what I am doing ;)
Hey there, I found you via the NaBloPoMo blogroll.
We were early adopters of the digital camera, and I would say we would easily have nearly 1 million photos taken over 15 years. They are in so many different folders and quite a lot have been archived so I wouldn’t easily be able to get an exact number.
Our rule has always been never delete, so a lot of those might be less than optimal images.
22,000 is not a lot of images in the scheme of things. Divide them up by the number of days in the years since you have been taking them, and what number do you then get? :)
As part of NaBloPoMo I try to comment on as many participating blogs as I can, and I am also adding participating blogs to my feed reader. So I’m just dropping by to let you know I’ve added your blog to my feedreader, whenever you publish a post I will see it. :)
I have created three bundles on Inoreader so that bloggers can easily visit other participating NaBloPoMo bloggers which you can find here –

Your blog is in the second bundle.. I also have a link up going at my place so my readers can find participating blogs which you are more than welcome to add your blog link to.
Looking forward to seeing your posts. You may see me drop by again during November, but it might be December before I finish my first drop by to blogs if I don’t get faster at leaving comments. :)
Happy NaBloPoMo to you!
